Piña

La piña (Ananas comosus) pertenece a la familia de las bromeliáceas originaria de América del Sur. Es una planta tropical herbácea perenne de tallo corto y grueso. La inflorescencia contiene entre cien y doscientas flores dispuestas en forma de espiral. La floración dura entre treinta y sesenta días aproximadamente; El fruto maduro se obtiene ciento treinta y cinco días después de la aparición de la flor.

Luz: Alta luminosidad favorece el rendimiento, la buena coloración de la cáscara y la buena calidad del fruto.

Suelo: Suelos ligeros y bien drenados ricos en materia orgánica.

Uno de los factores del suelo que limita el crecimiento de la piña es la baja permeabilidad principalmente en climas lluviosos, ya que favorece el ataque de patógenos en el sistema radicular.

pH: Entre 4,5 y 6,5 siendo ideal para el crecimiento de las plantas de 5,0 a 6,0. Un pH superior a 6,5 aumenta el riesgo de deficiencias de microelementos.

Clima: La piña necesita una temperatura media de 25-32 ºC, un régimen de precipitaciones regular (entre 1000-1500 mm) y una elevada humedad ambiental. Aunque la piña tolera periodos relativamente largos de sequía, la falta de agua al momento de la siembra y al inicio de la floración y fructificación, retarda el crecimiento y reduce el tamaño de la fruta.
